Fondly known as the shearing capital of New Zealand, Te Kuiti is a small town located just a short drive from the world famous Waitomo Caves, in the Waikato region. A huge statue of a shearer with a sheep dominates the landscape at the southern end of the town.

Te Kuiti has a great small community vibe, with friendly locals and a rich culture. The prime time to visit Te Kuiti is in autumn when Te Kuiti puts on the Great NZ Muster, normally held the weekend after Easter each year. As well as all things sheepish (shearing contests, sheep races and more), you can see Maori culture groups performing and enjoy the street stalls.
